Croissants + Joie de Vivre

Born in Paris.

The idea for Patisserie Melanie was born in Paris. Way back in 2012, in between my classes at Le Cordon Bleu, I would eat croissants. My mission was to find the best croissant in Paris. Taking my mandate seriously, I ate a croissant at all the best bakeries in Paris! If you want to know where to find the best croissant in Paris, please read my Bonnes Adresses blog post.

After my first stage at LCB, I returned to San Diego with a constant craving for Parisian viennoiseries and pastries. I searched for a croissant here in San Diego that would satisfy my Paris-trained palate. I was disappointed. Because what I was really searching for was a Parisian experience—a place that could transport me to Paris in my mind, but wasn’t a caricature of a Parisian café. It didn’t exist in San Diego. A question began forming in my mind: Could I create such a place, such an experience?

The mission of Pâtisserie Mélanie is to create a Paris-quality food experience for the San Diego dining community. From the three-day croissant process to our buckwheat galettes, from the design of our café to that of our coffee cups, Pâtisserie Mélanie seeks to provide a dining experience with modern Parisian style and joie de vivre.

When you dine at Pâtisserie Mélanie, we invite you to disengage from your electronic devices, and engage all of your senses. Enjoy a pot of tea from the legendary Parisian tea salon, Fauchon, savoring its aroma and taste. As you pull apart a Pâtisserie Mélanie croissant, see the crust shatter and feel the interior layers stretch. Listen to the music of celebrated and contemporary French singers. Pretend you are in Paris.

On y va!
